Why Arsenal can’t hand Wenger a new role
Arsenal, in a latest statement, has given reason they can’t hand a new role to former manager Arsene Wenger.
Recall that in 2021, the Gunners’ current manager Mikel Arteta in a statement, admitted he would like the Frenchman to return to the Emirate Stadium in some capacity.
There were also speculations that the club’s technical director Edu also held talks with Wenger over a comeback.
However, the former manager has not returned to Arsenal since he left in 2018 after 22 years in charge.
The club’s chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has now cleared the air on the issue.
Venkatesham, in a statement with the club supporters, was asked if there has been any contact or discussions between the club and Wenger since November and if the club shared Arteta’s desire to bring him back.
Minutes of the meeting read: “Vinai responded that there is nothing but love and admiration for Arsene from the club.
“He is always welcome here, but of course with his new role at FIFA he is in Zurich, and travelling, much of the time.
“There are no plans for a formal role. He believes Mikel was responding to media asking if he would like him to be around which of course we would.”
