Reaction as Arsenal’s Ben White snubs England call up

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Jermaine Jenas has reacted to Arsenal defender, Ben White’s decision to snub an England call-up which he described as ‘strange’.

Jenas also stressed that White ‘has to decide what is best for his career and no one else’.

Recall that England national team coach Gareth Southgate recently unveiled his Three Lions squad for their friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Southgate then disclosed that White had asked not to be considered.

“It is strange,” Jenas told Mail Sport in Brazil.

“I think not everybody’s patriotic, and I think we have to accept that. I think Ben has his own reasons why he feels it’s best for him to not be selected for England.

“For all we know, him not being selected with England has such a positive impact on his club career, and he wants to focus on that.

“Not everybody’s the same in football. We like to kind of pigeonhole players like, “you have got to fight for your country”. It might be a footballing reason. It might be like, “what is the point in me going if I’m not going to play?”’
