Former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has finally opened up on why he left the North London club.

Recall that the goalkeeper exited Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window, joining Southampton after being replaced as Arsenal number one by David Raya.

Ramsdale arrived at Arsenal in 2021, after he was signed Sheffield United for £26m.

During his time at the North London club he made 89 appearances, but his game time changed after Arsenal secured a deal for Raya on loan in 2023, and then making the move permanent a year later.

Manager Mikel Arteta favoured Raya to Ramsdale who he left on the bench in major games.

This made Ramsdale focused on an exit from the Gunners in the summer for more game time elsewhere, which turned out to be Southampton.

Ramsdale when asked about his move to the south coast told Football Focus that he was sitting on the bench at Arsenal and winning a trophy wouldn’t have meant that much to him while being an unused goalkeeper in the North London squad.

Meanwhile, Ramsdale would get a chance to prove his worth to his former club when they face Southampton on Saturday, October 5.
