Barcelona striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has expressed sadness over Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Aubameyang said he is sad because he will not be able to face his former side in the UCL, which would have been the only way to play against them.

Speaking with Sky Sports, the Gabon international added that it’s “a good thing” that the Gunners are back in Europe.

He said: “Yeah [Arsenal were] really close and I think they did a lot of improvement and I’m a bit sad because I wanted to catch them in the Champions League.

“I have a lot of friends over there but I’m wishing them all the best for next season obviously. I think its going to be a good thing to get back to the Europa League as well and hopefully they can win it.”

Arsenal narrowly lost UCL qualification to Tottenham Hotspurs.

The Gunners would however be playing in the Uefa Europa League next season, having finished outside the top four on the EPL table.
