Arsenal may be facing a significant setback in their summer transfer plans, as Real Madrid have reportedly reopened talks to sign long-term Gunners target Martin Zubimendi.

After months of interest from the North London club, the Spanish midfielder’s future appears increasingly uncertain, with Real Madrid now stepping up efforts to hijack the deal.

The Gunners, who are yet to make a signing this summer, are actively pursuing reinforcements across several key positions.

Manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are prioritising the addition of a top-class striker, with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko high on the shortlist. Arsenal are also targeting a new winger, goalkeeper, and central midfielder as they prepare for a campaign aimed at challenging for both the Premier League and Champions League.

Meanwhile, rivals Liverpool have made an impressive start to the transfer window, securing deals for Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi, with Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez expected to follow. This early activity adds pressure on Arsenal, who are yet to finalise any incoming transfers.

Zubimendi has been Arsenal’s preferred midfield target for some time, having turned down a move to Liverpool during last summer’s window. However, Real Madrid’s decision to re-enter the race could force Arsenal to accelerate their approach or risk missing out entirely.

As the transfer window progresses, Arsenal’s resolve and efficiency in the market will be tested more than ever.
