Arsenal Lead Race for Sevilla Midfielder Amid Premier League Interest

Arsenal are actively working to finalise a deal for Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoumé, as competition intensifies from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, TEAMtalk understands.

The 23-year-old French defensive midfielder has been closely monitored by Arsenal scouts throughout the season. Manager Mikel Arteta sees Agoumé as a strong long-term replacement for Thomas Partey, whose future at the club remains unclear amid ongoing contract uncertainty.

Agoumé joined Sevilla from Inter Milan last summer for a modest fee of €4 million (£3.4m). Despite Sevilla’s struggles, the Frenchman has been a standout performer, earning praise for his physical presence, composure on the ball, and ability to shield the defence — traits that have led to comparisons with a young N’Golo Kanté in French media circles.

With Sevilla facing financial difficulties, sources suggest that a fee in the region of £20 million could be enough to secure Agoumé’s services — significantly below his long-term value, given his contract runs until 2028.

While Manchester United and Spurs are also keeping tabs on the midfielder, Arsenal’s early interest and more defined midfield strategy under Arteta could give them the edge. The Gunners have already agreed a deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but Arteta is determined to further reinforce his midfield ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
