Arsenal cancels striker’s contract ahead of move to Barcelona

The latest report revealed that Arsenal have cancelled Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract ahead of his transfer to Spanish club Barcelona.

This means Aubameyang could join the Catalans on a permanent deal instead of a loan deal that had been agreed earlier on.

A report via Sky Sports revealed that Aubameyang would sign for Barcelona as a free agent.

It is no longer news that the North London club had for the past few weeks been trying to offload the 32-year-old, who is on £350,000 a week after manager Mikel Arteta stripped him of the captaincy in December following a disciplinary issue.

The reports revealed that the Gunners would save around £25m in wages with Aubameyang’s departure.

However, the striker’s exit means Arsenal will have just two recognised strikers, Eddie Nketiah and Alex Lacazette, who are out of contract in the summer.

The report revealed that Aubameyang’s transfer to Barca had looked off earlier on Deadline Day after talks broke down over the financial part of the deal.

However, the Gabon international flew to Spain on Monday morning without Arsenal’s permission to facilitate his transfer.

The report revealed that Aubameyang took a significant pay cut to join the Catalans.
