Benfica manager, Roger Schmidt, in a recent statement has fired  at Argentina international Enzo Fernandez over his British record move to Chelsea.

Recall that the 22-year-old midfielder completed a sensational £107 million deal move to Chelsea in January.

He also signed an eight-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues, which means he would remain at Stamford Bridge until June 2031.

Before he departed from Benfica, Schmidt left Fernandez out of his squad to face Arouca on Tuesday, a game which they went on to win 3-0.

Also, the Argentine midfielder missed training on Monday.

Speaking after the game, Schmidt said: “It’s always difficult to lose a good player in the winter market.

“But today we showed that we are a good team without him, that we are capable of playing good football without him, that the players are focused on getting the most points, to be champions.

“Benfica is much bigger than a player.

“We had a player who wanted to leave and a club willing to pay the clause, we couldn’t do anything. We accepted and looked into it.”
