Manchester United have reportedly set an asking price for one of their veteran players, a former Real Madrid midfielder, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Erik ten Hag’s squad ended their 2023-24 Premier League season with a 2-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion. Despite this victory, they finished eighth in the table, marking their lowest-ever position in the competition.

Although they still have the FA Cup final against Manchester City to look forward to, there is ongoing speculation about potential changes, including the possible departure of Ten Hag.

This uncertainty extends to many first-team players due to the team’s inconsistent performance and the need for significant changes. The former Real Madrid midfielder, who has struggled this season, is among those rumored to be leaving. United are keen to offload his hefty wages and recoup some of the €70 million they spent on him less than two years ago.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are willing to sell the former Real Madrid midfielder for €40 million (£34.2 million). Given that he turned 32 in February, it’s uncertain if they can attract such a fee. Interest from Saudi Arabia might be their best chance to achieve this valuation.

The former Real Madrid midfielder has played 90 minutes in recent wins over Newcastle United and Brighton, but these have been his only notable performances in weeks. He still has two years left on his contract, with an option for an additional year, though this extension seems unlikely due to his age and the club’s desire to cut costs.

Despite his struggles, the former Real Madrid midfielder has contributed to the team with 12 goals and nine assists in his 83 appearances for United.
