Former Barcelona defender and Brazil international Dani Alves has come to the defence of his fellow countryman Fred at Old Trafford.

Alves, in a statement, stated that Fred is not the problem in the Red Devils’ recent slump as he stressed that it could be their manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, or the club.

The former Barcelona defender declared Fred as a ‘world class’ player when playing for Brazil’s national team, adding that he is better than all Man United midfielder combined.

So far this season, the Brazil midfielder has come under criticism from Man United fans due to his performances for Solskjaer’s side, particularly struggling without regular partner Scott McTominay in midfield.

“Every Brazilian becomes world-class when wearing the national team jersey,” Alves was quoted by Mirror as saying ahead of the Atalanta clash.

“I hear so many people complaining about Fred. But when he plays for Brazil, he is better than all of their [Man United’s] midfielders.

“The problem is the club or coach, not Fred.”

Fred started for Man Utd alongside McTominay in the midfielder during the clash vs Atalanta, with the Red Devils winning the game by a 3-2 scoreline.
