Manchester United have been linked with moves to sign a loan manager this season.

One of the names that has been linked to Man Utd is their former midfielder, Michael Appleton who has now turned down the job offer to return to Old Trafford.

Recall that Appleton rose through the ranks from the Red Devils academy.

The 48-year-old was at Old Trafford for five years, from 1992 to 1997 before he joined Preston in a permanent transfer.

Appleton was most recently the head at League One club Charlton Athletic before he left the Addicks after being sacked in January.

While Appleton is currently out of job, however, a report via the Daily Mail disclosed he recently had the chance to become Man United’s loan manager.

But he rejected the offer from his old club.

Man Utd will now have to focus on another loan manager they can sign.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils will return to action this weekend when they play against Dutch side Twente in the UEFA Europa League at Old Trafford.

Man Utd’s manager Ten Hag will be reunited his old club where he started his professional career as he hope to help the Red Devils win their first match in the tournament this season.
