Former Man Utd manager linked with return to Everton

David Moyes has been making headlines following the sack of Sean Dyche as Everton manager on Thursday.

This comes as report claimed Moyes emerged as the top target to replace Dyche as the Toffees next manager.

Recall that Dyche was sacked on Thursday afternoon, hours to the Toffees’ FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough United.

Everton had to play the game with Under-18s head coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman in charge as interim managers.

The Athletic reported that Everton have now identified Moyes as their top target to succeed Dyche.

While another report via Sky Sports News claimed that the 61-year-old has already held tallks with the club owners and could return to the club as early as this weekend.

There are speculation that Everton owners hope to announce the appointment of a new manager before their next Premier League match at home against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Moyes, who was in charge at West Ham United last season, was Everton manager between 2002 and 2013 and won 42% of his 518 matches during his time at the club.

He led the Toffees to the qualifying rounds of the Champions League in 2005 and the FA Cup final in 2009.

After 11 years with the club, he departed to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, where he was sacked after just 10 months in charge.
