Portugal international Bruno Fernandes has expressed his delight over his appointment as Man Utd’s new captain.

Recall that Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag stripped English defender Harry Maguire of the armband and handed it to Fernandes this summer.

Fernandes in a statement via Man Utd’s website said it is a big responsibility but he feels proud to be handed the band.

“It’s not something that you dream about, because that’s above your dream. It’s something that makes you feel proud of everything that we’ve been doing,” he said.

“It’s a big responsibility, but it’s already a big responsibility to be part of this club. So we know that, for me, it will be the same. I won’t change.

“I will keep the same standards and just try to give my best as captain, as I was doing when I wasn’t.”

Fernandes was impressive for the Red Devils last season as he led them out for most of the last campaign as Maguire lost his place in the club’s starting XI.

Meanwhile, Maguire has been advised to leave Old Trafford for another club if he wants regular game time next season.
