Former English Premier League official Dermot Gallagher in a statement stated that West Ham United should have earned a penalty against Chelsea on Saturday.

Recall that thd Blues finished the weekend fixture at the London Stadium with three points after cruising to a 3-0 win against the Hammers.

Nicolas Jackson put the Blues two goals to the good within the opening 18 minutes, before Cole Palmer sealed the victory early in the second half.

A highlight from the match was the moment Crysencio Summerville got the better of Wesley Fofana on the edge of the area before attempting to advance into the 18-yard box, where he would have attempted a shot or cross.

He landed on the ground after being pulled back by Fofana, an action which the referee waved away amid West Ham’s appeals for a penalty.

However, Gallagher in a reactions said Fofana was fortunate to avoid giving West Ham the chance to halve what was a 2-0 scoreline at the time.

Speaking to Sky Sports Ref Watch, Gallagher said he believed it’s a penalty as Fofana held Summerville for so long.

According to Gallagher, the dilemma for the VAR was that the referee had the perfect view and still said no.
