Why Werner will lose starting spot if scoring drought continues

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has issued a stern warning to under-fire striker Timo Werner as he noted that he might lose his first team shirt if he fails to end his goal drought.

Werner has not been able to continue his good start to Chelsea career as he has failed to score in his last nine matches.

The Germany international has also been guilty of missing some clear cut chances and this has increase the pressure on Frank Lampard to put him on the bench.

However, Lampard on various occasions has backed him to bounce from the goal drought even after the star confirmed that the physicality of Premier League has affected his game.

Sharing his thoughts on Werner’s current predicament at Chelsea, Schwarzer noted that he understood why Lampard has stuck with the former RB Leipzig forward as he has been contributing to the team success.

However, Lampard still has some injuries to balance when it comes to his forward players as the likes of Pulisic, Ziyech are still in and out of the side.

Schwarzer insisted that if Chelsea has a fully fit Pulisic and Ziyech, it may be a different situation for Timo Werner and he may find himself on the outside.

Tammy Abraham and Oliver Giroud have been scoring goals for the Blues ever since Werner started his goal drought, a move that showed how competitive the Blues forward line is.
