Why Ronaldo’s return to Man Utd is a mistake

The return of Portugal International Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford has been regarded as a mistake.

This is according to former Arsenal star Charlie Nicolas who said Ronaldo’s return had hampered the development of the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

The Portuguese striker returned to Manchester United last summer after three seasons at Juventus.

While Ronaldo has helped the Red Devils remain in the Uefa Champions League and saved them defeat on many occasions in the league, Nicholas claims that both Manchester United and Ronaldo are regretting the move.

“Cristiano Ronaldo coming back to Manchester United hasn’t had an influence on either Mason Greenwood or Marcus Rashford’s development this season,’ Nicholas told MyBettingSites.

“You [United] don’t look at someone who is Ronaldo’s age and sign them. It wasn’t a clever move for Manchester United and it wasn’t a clever move for Ronaldo himself either.

“The Ronaldo signing shows that Manchester United’s board have no focus on where they want to be.

“It isn’t Cristiano that’s disturbed Greenwood or Rashford’s quality.

“Ronaldo wasn’t the right signing and it’s typical that Manchester United are getting all the decisions wrong at the top levels [of the boardroom].”
