Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has opened up on why he remained at Old Trafford this season.

Recall that Maguire was linked with moves away from Man Utd after he was stripped of the captaincy by manager, Erik ten Hag.

So far this season, the defender has played only 23 minutes.

While Maguire had offers to leave Old Trafford in the recent summer window, no deal was reached and he remained with United, despite slipping down the pecking order.

The player revealed he stayed to fight for his place.

“We just didn’t come to an agreement and they were happy for me to stay and I was happy to fight for my place.

“I want to do that and every time I train or play I will give everything. I know, at the moment, when I have not started a game in the first four games of the season, the story comes to me,” Maguire, whose contract runs until 2025, said.
