Former Chelsea defender, William Gallas in a recent statement has opened up on why centre-back. Kalidou Koulibaly has failed to impress in his first season at Chelsea so far.

Koulibaly, who was a highly rated defender in Europe during his eight-year stint at Italian side Napoli have been unable to live up to his name in the EPL since joining Chelsea in a £33million deal last summer.

The defender has not been able to find his Serie A form in the English Premier League.

But Gallas opined he is struggling at Chelsea because it’s a different league and style.

“Kalidou Koulibaly is struggling at Chelsea because it’s a different league and style,” Gallas told Genting Casino.

“To play in England and to play in Italy are two different things.

“Your teammates are different. You aren’t the best defender in your team. In Napoli, he was the best defender, at Chelsea, it’s different.

“You aren’t the main guy, so you’ve got to adapt. In my opinion, when you’re coming from another league, you need at least one year to adapt, especially if you’ve family. So you need to adapt,” he said.
