Why Kepa is now Chelsea number one goalie

Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, in a recent statement has opened up on why Kepa Arrizabalaga is his number-one goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge.

According to Potter, form and consistency will determine who starts between Edouard Mendy and Kepa.

However, since Potter took over from Thomas Tuchel in September, Kepa has taken over the Blues goalpost from Mendy, who was once the club’s number one.

Mendy was injured into the new season and this may have been one of the reasons why he has lost his place.

“It is better to let football decide,” Potter answered when asked the question regarding the two keepers and who is his first choice.

“Kepa has done really well. He has been supported fantastically by [Mendy] and [Marcus Bettinelli]. They provide good competition.

“Kepa’s form is really pleasing for everybody, especially him, so it’s nice we have competition in that area. That’s how you get players better.”
