Former Premier League midfielder Jamie Redknapp while reacting to Chelsea’s weekend game vs West Ham said the Blues summer signing Nicolas Jackson should have taken the penalty against West Ham and not Enzo Fernandez.

According to Redknapp, Jackson should be Chelsea’s penalty taker because he is a striker and has lovely touches.

Fernandez lost the opportunity to put the Blues ahead against the Hammers at the London Stadium on Sunday, which ended 3-1 in favour of West Ham.

“He [Jackson] certainly excited me in pre-season in the Summer Series as well,” Redknapp said while speaking on Sky Sports.

According to him: “He looked sharp. He was bright. He was good on the ball, he’s got lovely touches. He works extremely hard for the team as well. There were moments in the first half where I thought, ‘Wow, what a player this guy looks’. Unfortunately, when you are a No. 9 and a striker, you get judged on your goals.

“He needs one of those moments, like when Enzo Fernandez stepped up and took the penalty, I’d like to see him say, ‘I will take that; I’m a centre-forward; I will put the ball in the back of the net’.”
