Why it will be difficult for any new owner to replicate Abramovich’s success at Chelsea

Former football star and pundit Jamie Carragher has stressed that it would be very difficult for any of Chelsea’s prospective owners to replicate the success Roman Abramovich had at Chelsea.

This comes as Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale amid his home country, Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine.

As of now, a number of billionaires and business people have made their interest public to buy the Premier League club, but Carragher believes a simple transition that will see success immediately is unlikely.

Carragher told CBS Sport: “I think whoever comes in and takes over from Roman Abramovich will find it very difficult to replicate the success that they’ve had.

“You may find someone who is willing to put in the same money, but it is the losses Chelsea have had that an owner is prepared to take.

“Changing managers over the years, players coming in left, right and centre, huge money spent on players, and this is not a club that generates huge money.”
