Former Premier League star, Alan Shearer in a recent statement said Liverpool will be ‘embarrassed’ as Brighton’s Moises Caicedo rejected joining them in favour of a move to Chelsea this summer.

While there were speculations that Caicedo could be heading to Anfield after Liverpool agreed to a British record £111million deal with Brighton, the Ecuador star made it clear to Liverpool that he want a transfer to Chelsea, having agreed personal terms with the Blues earlier in the summer.

With the latest update, the Reds are willing to withdraw their interest in Caicedo, while it is uncertain Chelsea will match the Reds’ £111 million bid that Brighton accepted on Friday.

Chelsea had submitted three bids for Caicedo worth between £60-80m but are expected to make an improved offer to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.

Reacting to the transfer saga regarding Caicedo, Shearer said on The Rest Is Football podcast: “It’s pretty embarrassing for Liverpool if that is the case.

“They have agreed a deal for £111m and then all of a sudden the player has said, “no thanks, I don’t fancy coming to you, I am going to London instead”
