Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag in a statement said other players’ forms are the reason Mason Mount is not starting for the Red Devils.

The manager also revealed that Mount’s injury setback in September affected his ability to integrate into the Red Devils team.

Mount has featured mainly as a substitute since returning from injury.

The England star has not scored a goal for his new club after 11 appearances with a string of underwhelming performances.

He was ruled out of five games due to muscle injury but since his return to fitness at the end of September, he has started just twice in the league.

Asked about Mount’s lack of starts, Ten Hag during a press conference on Friday ahead of his side’s Premier League tie with Luton Town said: “He had some starts.

“Also recently, last week against Newcastle, but there are always reasons and sometimes, like the injury [at start of the season] and other players doing well, then you have to wait for your time to play.”

He added, “But he started the season, then he got injured, so that is the worst moment for a new player to get injured because it stops the integration process and that was a setback for us all. Now we have to find his place back.”
