Why Chelsea should forget about signing this 28-year-old defender

A new report has tipped Real Madrid as the favourite to sign Bayern Munich player, David Alaba.

Chelsea were among the top clubs who are hoping to submit a transfer deal for him in the soon to commence January transfer window.

Apart from Chelsea, the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain PSG have also shown interest in him.

However, with the look of things, it seems best for the Blues to drop their interest in the 28-year-old player and focus on other players instead.

While Alaba is yet to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena, Marca report has claimed that Real Madrid are close to concluding a move for the versatile defender.

The report hinted that the Spanish Giant will commence official talks on the 1st of January when the transfer window opens.

Apart from Real Madrid being favourite to sign the Austrian defender, report disclosed he is looking for a contract of £350,000 per week, an amount Chelsea might not be able to offer him.

With the looks of things, Chelsea may have to maintain their defenders especially Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma at least for the rest of the season.

They can then make a  move for a new defender in the next summer window.
