Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta was among the club players that had been linked with moves away this summer in previous report.

Azpilicueta had been linked to Spanish club Barcelona, who had also shown interest in him.

However, the Blues would later have a change of heart by signing a 2 years contract extension with the west London side this summer.

Azpilicueta in a statement said after positive conversations with both head coach Thomas Tuchel and the new owners, he was persuaded to extend his stay.

‘But then everything happened, we had some really good conversations with the manager and the owners. I’m the captain of this club and I wanted to stay committed to Chelsea.

‘The conversations we had will remain private, but we had some really good communications, we said what we thought and then I realised that I wanted to continue to help my club,’ the defender added.

Azpilicueta stressed that he is happy to remain at Stamford Bridge, which he likes where he would hang his boot after two years.
