Why Casemiro was substituted during Man Utd, Brentford clash

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag in a post-match statement opened up on his decision to substitute midfielder, Casemiro at half-time during their 2-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Ten Hag revealed that Casemiro was removed for tactical reasons.

Despite being given marching orders in midweek during Man United’s defeat to Galatasaray in the UCL, Ten Hag opted to retain the 31-year-old in his first team against Brentford at Old Trafford.

However, Casemiro delivered another poor form against Brentford and was badly at fault for Mathias Jensen’s opening goal when he carelessly conceded possession in his own half.

Casemiro was replaced by Christian Eriksen at halftime as another substitute Scott McTominay scored two late brace to give Man Utd all three points.

When asked to explain the change, Ten Hag said at his post-match press conference: “I wanted more football.

“Someone who brings passing and link-up play so I brought on Eriksen for Casemiro.”
