Former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend expressed his fears that summer signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could end up being a ‘waste of time if his track record is anything to go by.

Recall that Aubameyang was the captain at Arsenal before he left the club for Barcelona in February. Months later he signed a deal with the Blues on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Since joining Chelsea, Aubameyang has made an impressive start to life, scoring in three successive matches.

However, Townsend, feels the Blues fans should not get carried away by the performance of the former Gunners captain so far and fears it is far too early to consider him a success at Stamford Bridge.

According to Townsend, Aubametang had played what he described as “walking football” towards the end of his Arsenal career

“Every time I watched him I used to think ‘you don’t run around,” he told talkSPORT.

“But if you don’t charge around you’re a waste of time in modern day Premier League football.”
