Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has issued warnings to Germany striker Timo Werner at Stamford Bridge over coach Thomas Tuchel’s latest warning.

Tuchel, after the Blues victory over Southampton in the Premier League over the weekend, hailed Werner for his performance but went on to say there is room for improvement on the part of the striker.

Cascarino, however, warned Werner to improve speedily as Tuchel’s statement meant Chelsea are ready to sell him if he fails to improve.

Werner, who joined the Blues from RB Leipzig at £45.7 million, has not been impressive and was part of why Chelsea sign Romelu Lukaku in the summer.

“Thomas Tuchel’s comment that there were “a lot of things to improve” for Timo Werner after his goal against Southampton was telling,” Cascarino told The Times.

“Chelsea fans have been loyal to misfiring centre forwards, such as Andriy Shevchenko and Fernando Torres, in the past, and the same has been true of Werner, but strikers can’t be simply OK at big clubs.

“The German can’t continue to miss so many big chances because otherwise – just as with Shevchenko and Torres – the club will move him on.”
