Viktor Gyökeres Favors Arsenal Move Amid Chelsea Interest

Prolific Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres is reportedly leaning toward a move to Arsenal over Chelsea, despite strong interest from both Premier League giants.
The 26-year-old forward has enjoyed a remarkable season, netting an astonishing 56 goals in 52 appearances for club and country, making him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.
According to a report from Portuguese outlet A Bola, Gyökeres has expressed a preference for joining Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who are believed to be in the market for a proven goalscorer to bolster their attack ahead of the new season. The Gunners’ style of play and Champions League prospects are thought to appeal to the Sweden international.
Chelsea, however, remain firmly in the race and are confident in their ability to strike a deal with Sporting. The West London club has built a solid relationship with the Portuguese champions in recent months, having recently completed deals for promising midfielder Dário Essugo and teenage talent Geovany Quenda.
While Chelsea’s willingness to loan Quenda back to Sporting for the 2025/26 season helped secure that transfer, it’s unclear whether similar flexibility could influence Gyökeres’ decision. Sporting are reportedly resigned to losing their star striker this summer, with a transfer looking increasingly inevitable.
As Europe’s elite prepare their summer moves, all eyes will be on whether Arsenal can capitalize on Gyökeres’ reported preference, or if Chelsea can leverage their strong ties to sway the striker toward Stamford Bridge.
