Viktor Gyökeres has reportedly shifted his transfer focus toward Manchester United, placing the Premier League giants in pole position to land the prolific Swedish striker.

Previously linked heavily with Arsenal, Gyökeres is now said to be favouring a reunion with manager Ruben Amorim, who recently took charge at Old Trafford after their successful spell together at Sporting CP.

The 27-year-old striker is at the centre of one of the summer’s most talked-about transfer sagas. After a sensational season—scoring 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting—Gyökeres is eager to secure a big move to one of Europe’s top leagues. However, negotiations have been far from straightforward.

Despite the player’s intentions, Sporting CP claim no formal offers have been received. Club president Frederico Varandas has even accused Gyökeres’ representatives of misleading other clubs, denying the existence of a supposed “gentleman’s agreement” to sell him for £59 million. Instead, Sporting are believed to be holding out for a package worth up to £86 million.

Arsenal were previously considered front-runners but appear to have cooled their interest as they focus on alternative targets, prompting Gyökeres to reconsider his options. With United searching for a reliable No.9 to lead their line next season, and Amorim keen to reunite with the striker, a deal may now be more likely.

Should United push ahead, they could secure one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards, potentially transforming their attack for the upcoming campaign.
