Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is reportedly exploring alternative striker options as the club continues to face challenges in securing deals for primary targets Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyökeres.

Since arriving at the Emirates, Berta has made the search for a top-class centre-forward a key priority. Both Sesko, of RB Leipzig, and Sporting CP’s Gyökeres have been high on the shortlist, with each valued at around £67 million by their respective clubs. However, negotiations have yet to result in an agreement, prompting concerns among supporters.

According to the Daily Mail, the delay in signing Sesko is due in part to Berta’s strategic approach, aimed at avoiding inflated fees. Rather than rushing into a deal, Berta is reportedly taking a “softly-softly” stance to avoid overpaying in a market where elite strikers are in short supply.

Leipzig are believed to be driving a hard bargain for Sesko, fully aware of Arsenal’s urgent need and the limited alternatives available. Meanwhile, there is growing belief that Sporting CP are becoming increasingly open to selling Gyökeres, which could speed up discussions in that direction.

Nonetheless, with neither deal close to completion, Berta is said to have “other strikers in mind” and is preparing for the possibility of turning to a surprise option. This contingency planning reflects Arsenal’s intent to strengthen the squad effectively without compromising on value.

As the transfer window unfolds, Arsenal remain committed to finding the right striker to lead the line in the upcoming season.
