Manchester United forward Marcos Rashford has spoken out for the first time after he was racially abused and a mural in his hometown vandalised following Team England’s loss in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.

Rashford was summoned from the bench in the dying time of extra time to take the decisive penalty, but Manchester United hit the post.

His teammate next season, Jadon Sancho, also missed his penalty before Bukayo Saka’s spot-kick was saved by Donnarumma.

The trio have been abused on social media by some fans, a move that the footballing world has condemned.

Rashford, via his social media platforms, has now broken silence, stating that he can critique how he performed but will never apologise for who he is and where he came from.

The young forward in his post stated that he does not know where to start, and he doesn’t even know how to put into words how he’s feeling at this exact time.

According to Rashford, he’s had a difficult season, and that’s been clear for everyone to see, and he probably went into that final with a lack of confidence.

However, he has always backed himself for a penalty, but something didn’t feel quite right.

During the long run-up, he was saving himself a bit of time and unfortunately, the result was not what he wanted.

Rashford noted that he felt as though he had let his teammates down; he felt as if he had let everyone down, adding that he wished everything had gone differently.
