UCL final: Tuchel reveals Chelsea players are learning to take penalties

Ahead of Chelsea Uefa Champions League final.vs. Man City tonight at Porto, Portugal, the Blues coach, Thomas Tuchel has revealed that his players are learning to take penalty kicks.

Tuchel stressed that the Blues have taken a clue from  Man Utd recent heartbreak after they lost to Villarreal in the Uefa Europa League during the week.

Recall that Man Utd and Villarreal ended the game in a 1-1 scoreline before they took turns to take penalty kicks.

With many expecting Chelsea vs. Man City match to be a difficult challenge, there are possibilities that the game could end in penalty shootouts as well.

Tuchel in his statement said his team are ready if it ends in penalty.

When he was asked if Chelsea goalkeepers Edouard Mendy or Kepa Arrizabalaga would be ready to step up to the spot if called upon, Tuchel replied: “Well I hope so.

“We always practise penalties when we face a match where it’s possible it could go to penalties.

“Can we simulate the pressure, the fatigue, the occasion, how it will feel tomorrow? No, we cannot.

“But still we believe we can take care about some patterns, and about a certain rhythm and certain habits during penalties. Which we did.”
