Chelsea managed, and Germany international Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that the Blues are in talks to extend the contract of their key defender and Denmark international Andreas Christensen.

It is no longer news that Christensen is among the Blues players that will see their contract end at the end of this season.

He has been linked with a move to Spanish club Barcelona, but Chelsea are determined to keep him at Stamford Bridge, having formed a part of their strong defence.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Tuchel said: “Things are very mature and respectful and clear. Of course there are some delays with Toni and Andreas at the moment.

“For Andreas, from my point of view, everybody wants the same thing. The coach wants the same thing, the club wants the same thing and the player wants the same thing. Hopefully and obviously I expect some good news in the next days but every case is different.

“You can end up in situations like this but the situations are handled from all sides very carefully, very professionally, very calm and mature. During the process we can produce performances that we need to fulfill our goals and that’s the most important.”
