Tottenham Hotspur have been urged to push ahead with a blockbuster move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with claims that the Italian could have a transformative impact similar to the one Declan Rice has enjoyed at Arsenal.

Former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes Tonali possesses the leadership qualities, mentality and technical ability required to elevate Spurs to a new level. According to Sheringham, the midfielder would immediately raise standards throughout the squad and help establish a stronger winning culture at the club.

Tottenham are looking to rebuild after enduring two disappointing Premier League campaigns, finishing 17th in successive seasons. As a result, strengthening the midfield has become a major priority, and Tonali has emerged as one of the club’s most ambitious targets.

The Newcastle star is expected to attract significant interest this summer. Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham have all been linked with the Italy international, whose performances have established him as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders.

Reports suggest Tottenham have already tested Newcastle’s resolve with an £80 million offer, only to see it rejected. The Magpies are believed to value Tonali closer to £100 million and remain reluctant to part ways with one of their most influential players.

Despite the sizeable fee, Sheringham believes the investment could prove worthwhile. He argues that elite midfielders have the ability to transform teams both on and off the pitch, pointing to Rice’s influence at Arsenal as an example of how one major signing can change a club’s trajectory.

Whether Tottenham are prepared to meet Newcastle’s valuation remains uncertain. However, with the club eager to close the gap on the Premier League’s leading sides, securing a player of Tonali’s calibre would undoubtedly send a powerful statement about their ambitions for the future.
