Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has finally revealed the main reason why he allowed youngster Billy Gilmour to stay with the blues despite speculations linking him out of the club.

Billy Gilmour has emerged as the next youngster to break out of Chelsea youth system but the Scotland international have been forced to spend time on the bench.

The likes of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho are ahead of him in the Chelsea squad and some clubs were willing to sign him on loan.

However, Thomas Tuchel blocked the move and the teenager has only made two appearances for the west London side under the German tactician.

He was involved in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United in Sunday’s quarter-final tie at Stamford Bridge and he made sure his presence was felt.

Speaking at his post-match media conference about his decision to keep Gilmour at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel stated that it’s absolutely no mistake.

According to Tuchel, it was unfortunately not Gilmour choice but it was his choice, the choice was made for Chelsea and not for the personal goals of Billy.

The former Paris Saint-Germain manager noted that Gilmour accepted it in a five-minute talk and he hope the youngster knows how much he appreciate him.
