Former Manchester United star, Roy Keane, has suggested that England national team manager Gareth Southgate could take over from Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, after the conclusion of the European Championships this summer.

It is no longer news that Ten Hag’s job at Manchester United under threat due to the club’s poor form, with criticisms stemming from their eliminations from the UEFA Champions League and the EFL Cup, as well as being out of the Premier League title race.

Owing to this, Southgate has been considered as one of the potential replacements for the Dutchman.

Keane, in a comment via Stick to Football podcast, said that Southgate could make the transition given his connection with Dan Ashworth and his previous work experience with the England setup.

The Irishman said: “I could see that happening, yeah.

“Everyone is thinking he is probably going to leave England this summer if he has a good championship, thinking if they could win it. And if they don’t, you are thinking maybe you have ran your race with it.

“He has that connection with Dan Ashworth and has worked with him previously. Yeah [I could see it happening].”
