Former Chelsea and now Real Madrid defender, Antonio Rudiger has reacted to Thomas Tuchel’s sack at the West London side.

Rudiger in his statement expressed surprise over the Blues’ decision to sack the German as he revealed he has written to his fellow countryman to thank him for everything.

Recall that Chelsea sacked Tuchel after the first game of the Champions League which saw them lose to Croatia side Dinamo Zagreb.

The German was swiftly replaced with former Brighton manager Graham Potter.

The surprising part about Tuchel’s sack was that he was not given a chance even after the Blues hierarchy had allowed him to spend £280 million on new players.

Rudiger, who left Chelsea on a free transfer despite Tuchel’s determination to keep him, told Sport 1: “They let him get new players only to then let him go after a few games. I was surprised at the speed.

“The day of his release was a sad one for me. I wrote to him afterwards & thanked him for everything.

“If you look at where we came from and where he took us, he did the impossible. But you know how it is in football. Sometimes you’re the hero, sometimes the bogeyman.”
