Reports: Why Chelsea pulled out of a last-minute deal with Spanish star

Chelsea’s summer transfer business was impressive as Thomas Tuchel was able to have Romelu Lukaku in his team.

The London club broke their club record to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan but were not able to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla despite their pursuit of the Frenchman.

Kounde was linked with Chelsea for the majority of the transfer window but the Frenchman will remain at Sevilla for at least the January transfer window.

Reason why Chelsea decided to pull out of talks over signing the Sevilla defender on transfer Deadline Day has now surfaced.

According to reports from Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea pulled out of the deal as they deemed the signing too expensive.

Chelsea were willing to do business with Sevilla for a fee of €55 million but the Spanish side rejected the offer, demanding Kounde’s release clause of €80 million.

The blues couldn’t afford to pay such a fee for Kounde and this gives youngster Trevoh Chalobah more chance to prove his worth.

With Kurt Zouma allowed to leave for West Ham United, Chalobah will be having more playing time in the first team.
