The latest reports have revealed that Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to rival EPL clubs Chelsea and Manchester United over the signature of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

Chelsea were linked with the move for the  22-year-old defender last summer transfer window, but it didn’t work out.

However, Sevilla president Jose Castro in a recent statement, revealed that they turned down a £42.5m bid from the West London side, as their offer did not meet the player’s £68m release clause.

On the other hand, Man United, who recently emerged as a contender for Kounde’s signature, seems to be nearer to signing him as the Frenchman has reportedly told his agent to open talks with the Red Devils ahead of a proposed move next summer.

However, according to Real Madrid fan site Defensa Central, it reported that the Spanish club are the latest club who are set to step up their pursuit for Kounde in 2022.

Despite signing David Alaba on a free transfer over the summer, the Los Blancos remain in the transfer market for another central defender, following the departure of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane last season.

Kounde has been impressive so far, having recently won the UEFA Nations League with France; he has made 97 appearances across all Sevilla competitions.
