Real Madrid linked with moves for Chelsea captain
Spanish club Real Madrid have again been linked with moves for Chelsea’s captain and defender Cesar Azpilicueta.
According to Futbol Total, via Spanish outlet Sport, Real Madrid could make a move for Azpilicueta during the January transfer window.
The report added that the Los Blancos would be willing to offer £10m to the Spanish international, who made it to Spain’s national team squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
Azpilicueta has a year left in his contract with Chelsea having signed a new contract before the start of the season to remain at the club till the summer of 2024.
Aside from Real Madrid, fellow La Liga club Barcelona are also said to be monitoring the situation at Chelsea.
It is unlike Chelsea would allow Azpilicueta to leave in January as he is their only backup option at right-back to Reece James, who is currently out on injury.
While the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek can also play the role, they, are not considered genuine backup options.
Real Madrid and other clubs interested in Azpilicueta may have to wait till next summer.
