Manchester United interim manager and Germany international Ralf Rangnick, has recounted his time during his short stint at the club.

Rangnick in a statement said he expected the Red Devils to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Rangnick was hired on a six-month contract after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November 2021.

The German while addressing the press after the 3-0 win over Brentford, which was Man United’s last home league game, said: “I’m not completely happy with those six months.

“I expected us to qualify for the Champions League. That was the goal we had, but we were not consistent enough.

“We had two or three breaks [in my time in charge]. One of them we had hardly any players there [due to coronavirus]. We were also not able to bring in any new players in January. I would have hoped and expected we won more points. We could easily have had eight or 10 points more.”

Man Utd expect the arrival of Erik ten Hag at the end of the season as a replacement for Rangnick, who has been confirmed as the next coach of the Austrian national team.
