Premier League icon defends Frank Lampard amid his three game winless run at Chelsea

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has defended under-fire Chelsea manager Frank Lampard as he tips the English trainer to bounce back.

Frank Lampard did a good job with his young Chelsea team last season, ending the season in fourth place despite not signing any player and selling notable stars like Eden Hazard.

However, this season has not been the same for Frank Lampard as Chelsea have endured a torrid run of games with just one victory in their previous six league outings.

This has increased the pressure on Lampard with some top managers already linked as his replacement.

Despite the ongoing speculations, Carragher while speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football stated that Lampard should be backed and not be compared with some of the club’s former managers.

He stated that it’s fair Lampard gets criticized as he’s Chelsea manager and nobody knows Chelsea Football Club, and how ruthless they are with managers, more than Frank Lampard.

Carragher noted that having played with Frank, they get questioned whether they would be more critical of the situation if it was a different manager.

The former Liverpool defender noted that people would be right as he will be a lot more critical of the managers on that list not because he played with Frank Lampard but because he doesn’t expect him to win the Premier League or the Champions League this season.

He noted that the other managers that came in with CVs, years of experience, having won the big trophies Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Carlo Ancelotti, all great managers, he would be more critical of them.
