Potter gives update on Fofana

Chelsea centre-back defender and France star Wesley Fofana will miss out on international duty for his home country as he has been withdrawn from the French national squad after sustaining a hamstring injury in the Blues 2-2 draw with Everton over the weekend.

Despite Graham Potter’s attempt to take Fofana off the pitch in towards the end of the game, the defender reportedly still left Stamford Bridge with an ice pack strapped on his thigh.

Fofana’s decision to withdraw from participating in the international scene suggests his injury might not be a minor problem, especially as this would have been his first senior call-up for France and would unlikely miss such an opportunity for just a knock.

A report via French outlet L’Equipe revealed Fofana decided to withdraw on Sunday, just a day before he was supposed to join up with his France teammates at Clairefontaine.

Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo has since been called to replace the Chelsea defender.

“[Axel] Disasi and Todibo replace Wesley Fofana and William Saliba,” FFF wrote on social media.

“Didier Deschamps decided to call up the defenders of Monaco and OGC Nice to compensate for the absence of those of Chelsea and Arsenal.”
