Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri is reportedly close to agreeing terms over a new long-term contract at the London club despite not having enough game time under his belt.

The arrival of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City last summer has ensured that Emerson and Marcos Alonso are fighting for a place on the bench.

Emerson who has made 35 starts and five substitute outings in all competitions for the Blues ever since he joined has been linked with a move back to Italy with the likes of AC Milan and Inter Milan considered as a potential destination.

Frank Lampard now seems to have built a new confidence in the left-back as he has become deputy to Chilwell, ahead of Marcos Alonso who has also been linked with a move away from the London club.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea are ready to convince Palmieri into signing a new five-year deal as his form during Ben Chilwell absence has impressed the manager and the club’s top hierarchy.

Emerson is eager to be part of the Italy squad at Euro 2021 and will be hoping to impress Frank Lampard and Italy manager Roberto Mancini anytime he’s being called upon by both managers.

Hopefully, he would get a nod in Chelsea’s next game vs. Man City.
