Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has advised Man Utd on the player they need to bring in this summer to compete for trophies against their arch-rivals Man City next season.

So far, the Red Devils have bolstered their squad under manager Erik ten Hag by signing a new midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea and goalkeeper Andre Onana from Serie A side Inter Milan.

Ten Hag has now revealed the Red Devils are focused on signing a new striker.

But Ten Hag still wants Man United to sign a new striker this summer.

And Merson believes Man United will become a true challenger next season if they can sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur as their new striker.

So far, Man United have been linked with Kane, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.

In a tweet via his Twitter handle on Thursday, Merson wrote: “Man Utd need to get Kane… Get Kane [and they] will challenge for the Premier League. Don’t get Kane [and they are] fighting for a top-four spot.”
