Maresca to find solution to Chelsea’s bloated team

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, is working on reducing the size of the squad as new season approaches, the UK Telegraph reports.

Maresca who arrived at Stamford Bridge as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino this summer, will take charge of his first season as the Blues manager.

The Blues manager, who inherited a large squad, is planning to cut it down to a manageable size.

There are speculations that the West London side are hoping to have a first-team squad of around 23 or 24 outfield players.

What this means is that several of their players with have to leave either permanently or on loan before the summer transfer window deadline.

Recall that the Blues recently splashed the sum of £54m to sign Neto from Wolves, meaning they have made 12 summer signings, spending £243m since June 14.

This has pushed the Blues’ squad to more than 50 senior players, for a team that is not playing in any major tournament aside from the Premier League this season.

As of now, Maresca is yet to pick his first team and having a bloated squad will make it difficult for him to make his choice.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be starting the new season with an opening game against Premier League champions Manchester City this weekend.
