Maresca reacts to Ndidi’s tackle against Palmer
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reacted to Leicester City midfielder, Wilfried Ndidi’s tackle on Cole Palmer during their weekend faceoff at the King Power stadium.
Maresca who gave his verdict on Ndidi’s tackle disagreed with the majority of Chelsea fans after referee Andy Madley failed to award a red card to the Nigerian international for his strong tackle on Palmer.
The game ended 2-1 at the King Power on Saturday in a win for Chelsea as they remain seated at the 3rd spot on the league table.
Chelsea won three points against the Foxes thanks to goals from Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez.
But Ndidi, in the 22nd minute of the match, while attempting to chase Palmer, chopped the England international down from behind, making a contact with the back of his opponent’s ankle.
When asked for his thought on the foul, Maresca, who used to manage Ndidi at Leicester City before joining Chelsea, insisted that he did not believe it was a red card offense, while expressing his love for Ndidi.
“I don’t think Cole is the target. I don’t think that,” Maresca said in his post-match conference.
He added that he saw the clip and doesn’t think it was a red.
“The other one [vs Manchester United] I said that was a red card, for sure,” Maresca added.
