Man Utd caretaker Michael Carrick has taken a final decision to leave the club.

Carrick became Man Utd caretaker after Norway international Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked at Old Trafford last month.

Over the past few days, Carrick has had some significant success at Old Trafford; he led the Red Devils to a win over Spanish club Villarreal in the UCL, played a 1-1 draw against Chelsea and defeated Arsenal in a 3-2 scoreline on Thursday night.

Having served under Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho, many had hoped Carrick would remain at Old Trafford to work under new interim manager, Ralf Rangnick.

But the 40-year-old, in a recent statement, revealed he feels it’s the right time to step away from his duties.

“When I first signed over 15 years ago, I never in my wildest dreams imagined winning so many trophies and I will certainly never forget the fantastic memories both as a player and as a member of the coaching team.

“However, after a lot of thought and deliberation, I have decided that now is the right time for me to leave the club.

“I want to place on record my thanks to all of the players and a special mention goes to the backroom staff, working long hours with such a great group of people has been a real pleasure and I have made some long-lasting friendships,” Carrick said.
