Former Arsenal star and football pundit, Paul Merson has blamed the Gunners and Man Utd for making Saul Niguez sign for Chelsea.

Recall that the Blues have signed Niguez on loan from Spanish club, Atletico Madrid on loan with an option to sign him permanently.

Merson while hailing the 26-year-old star stressed that he doesn’t understand why Man Utd or Arsenal didn’t make a move for the player.

Saul Niguez was a key player as Atletico Madrid won La Liga last term, making 33 appearances.

According to him, Man United and Arsenal should have entered the race for his signature.

Niguez who made 33 appearances and won the Laliga with Atletico Madrid was a key player in the team.

Merson was of the opinion that he would have been a good signing for Arsenal or Man Utd who need a player of his spec at their midfield.

“What a phenomenal signing that is. He’s in his prime,” Merson told Starsport

He said United have Paul Pogba but he can’t play in a two and then it’s Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic.

Merson stressed that the Gunners should have signed Saul instead of handing a new contract to Granit Xhaka as the difference in class is enormous.
